“From the time I was five, I knew I wanted to create music for the big screen. Instead of baby dolls, I preferred to carry around VHS tape cases of my favorite films. To this day, my family still can’t find The Little Mermaid VHS.”

Margy Hayes is a classically-trained composer for film, TV and video games, who resides in New York City. Throughout most of her life, music has been both an outlet and a safe haven. Her goal throughout her career is to create music that both connects and transcends. So far, she has worked on a vast number of diverse projects in media and on stage, and continues to freelance, seeing where her music will take her.

Margy grew up on a small barrier island in Georgia where she began playing the oboe at the age of twelve. She attended Interlochen Center For The Arts Camp in Michigan, attending specialized master classes by world renowned oboists, Dan Stolper, Linda Strommen and Elaine Douvas. In her youth, she was principal oboist in the Coastal Youth Symphony, under the direction of Maestro Luis Haza, whose early influence inspired her passion for musical collaboration and appreciation for ensembles and live music. Her years as an oboist performing in a multitude of orchestras, wind ensembles and chamber groups, has helped Margy to see orchestration and composition from the musician’s perspective.

She graduated from Georgia State University, in Atlanta, Georgia, with a double Bachelors’ degrees in both Music Composition and Film Production, studying with Dr. Lara Saville Dahl and Dr. Nikitas Demos. In 2020, Margy graduated from NYU Steinhardt with a Masters degree in Film Scoring, studying with Michael Patterson, Irwin Fisch and Dr. Joseph Church, creative director of The Lion King On Broadway. For Music Editing studies, Margy Hayes studied under Suzana Peric who was a Music Editor for Lord Of The Rings and Silence Of The Lambs.

Margy Hayes has worked at 4 Elements Music and Arketype Trailer Music, near Times Square. She helped provide music to Networks, Streaming Services and Trailers, including: NBC, ABC, Netflix, and VICE Media. She has also previously worked for Jay-Z’s Roc Nation where she was an assistant to the Record Label’s CEO. In 2021, she was chosen to join SCL’s Mentorship Program as a fellow mentee. In 2022, she was brought on to work under composer Gil Talmi for Cynthia Lowen’s film, Battleground, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

By day, Hayes works at New Math Music as a Dub Engineer, Composer, and Studio Manager where she helps provide mixes and music for brands like Progressive, Samsung, Google, Uber Eats, Fitbit, Fanta, and many more. By night, Hayes is a freelance composer for film, tv, commercials and video games.
